Getting Started
Ordering supplies
Now that you know what your going to plant you need to decide whether you are going to plant all seeds or a
combination of seeds and plants. We want to grow all of our plants from seed(except the strawberries). Some
seeds and bulbs can of course be sown directly in the garden(beans, cucumbers. beets, peas, radishes, onions, etc.),
but we like to put out well established plants(with a few exceptions(radishes for instance)) as plants seem to
perform better. This is the right time to order your seeds, plants, and indoor growing supplies(if you intend to
start your own plants from seed). While we do have a favorite supplier we still have to shop at a couple of
different places each year to get exactly what we are looking for. Below is a list of the seeds, plants, and supplies
that we need. While your list is different from mine, this is still the right time for all of us to get our orders in. I am
including prices we pay and suppliers we use. All of this information will be included on the accounting page so
that we can see how much we spent on our garden in 2009.

You may have noticed that if all of the seeds planted were to survive we would have an awful lot of plants.
We will lose some and any other extras can easily be sold. It is not uncommon to get most if not all of the
money you spent on seed back from the sale of plants and still have a lot of seeds left. Some of the things
I wanted were not available at this time but that is not unusual. Things like sweet potatoes will not be available
until early in the year.
